Pastor – Rev. TJ Shirley
Pastor TJ is a native of Florida, where he lived the first 22 years of his life. He has gradually made his way farther north until he reached here. Pastor TJ has a B.A. in Music from Southeastern University, a Graduate Certificate in Church Music from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music, and a Master’s of Divinity and a Master’s of Theology from Columbia Theological Seminary. He served in music ministry, Christian education, and church communications for almost 20 years before entering the ordained ministry. Pastor TJ is married to Maggie, his high school sweetheart, who is a career music educator. They have two daughters: Brooke and Allie. In his spare time, Pastor TJ likes to sing, play guitar and trumpet, listen to podcasts, and watch football.
Director of Music – Daniel Le Guen-Schmidt
Daniel was born and raised in Glencoe, MN where he started in music at a young age. He took up piano lessons as well as handbells with his church in 2nd grade. He added other instruments in middle school and then finally started lessons on the organ in 8th grade. During his high school years he continued to participate in church music via bells as well as a rotational organist for churches local to Glencoe. He continued this through college. He attended Luther College, Decorah IA for his Bachelor’s Degree and Capella University for his Master’s. Since graduating college he has had the opportunity to provide music leadership for churches in Elk River, MN; Quincy and Lexington, MA; and Savage, MN. Outside of Calvin, you will find him leading the Human Resources Department for Hennepin Technical College as well as teaching an online Human Resources Management course for Southern New Hampshire University. When not working, he can be found on Lake Minnetonka, traveling to see friends and family in all parts of the country and world, napping, or finding the best desserts around (ok, a good meal or beverage too).
